We have just returned from a wonderful new year break at Ashmount, and cannot thank Alison and the team enough for the wonderful experience of staying in this idyllic, historical safe haven. Our room (Greenwood) was spotlessly clean, as was the hotel itself. Beautifully decorated whilst being comfortable, it’s just a pleasure to spend time here! Our breakfast was delicious (lots to choose from), and ordering the night before means breakfast is relaxing whilst limiting the number of people in the morning room at one time. We were truly spoiled on new year’s Eve with a beautiful dinner and welcome drinks (canapes amazing!).
We had a long trip to make over Xmas and decided to split the trip and stay overnight in Yorkshire. The meet and greet from Ali was friendly and efficient and we were shown to our spotless room with complimentary sherry and a nice ensuite shower (although a little small). The view across the valley was wonderful. We decided to eat in the guest house and the food was very good. Sometimes you trade quality for convenience with an evening meal at a B&B but not here. This was restaurant quality food, and I had a vegetarian risotto and S had a steak accompanied by glasses of Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot respectively. The wine list was good and well-priced. For breakfast we had the “Full Yorkshire” which is a “Full English, done proper” as they say around there.
Ashmount house is a lovely Victorian house. There is free off road parking. We stayed in the Greenwood room (1st floor) which has double aspect with a view across the valley. The room was spotlessly clean, with plenty of tea / coffee and sugar, there is fresh milk and a bottle of water in the fridge on the landing. We didn’t eat our evening meal at Ashmount house as we had already booked elsewhere, but the breakfast was lovely, I think the choice is varied too. You are asked for your breakfast choice the night before, but I didn’t see that as an issue, more of a time saver for the staff. Breakfast slots are timed and I think the reason for this is so staff aren’t overrun and as the visitor you are served promptly without waiting for ages.
Stayed for two nights in the Sanctuary spa room as a birthday surprise for my wife. Having arrived late, we were warmly welcomed by John (hope that’s right!) who was completely professional considering he was also dealing with another couple who were not happy with their booked room not being available. We were shown to our room with a comfy bed and well equipped bathroom which took us out to a decked area with hot tub. Fabulous! We didn’t eat dinner on either of the nights we stayed but the breakfasts were delicious. Will certainly look at booking again – perhaps in the summer months to enjoy the gardens too. Thank you Ashmount for make our stay so special.
